SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATORY COURSES
In the first week of this course, you will offer some short modules for skills development and preparation. This includes short courses on Life Skills, Introducing Peace and Conflict Resolution, Basics in Health, Hygiene and COVID-19 prevention, and community resilience. These preparatory courses were made to give you an introduction into the essentials of life skills to help you forward in your life and your job.
In Life Skills, you will learn to think about who you are and where you want to go, and what skills you will need to develop in order to get there. In introduction to Peace and Conflict Resolution, you will do exercises with your fellow students in order to learn about conflict, how to recognize and respond to conflict, and how to mediate it. In the Basics of Health, Hygiene and COVID-19, you will be introduced to health principles that are important for you and your community. In community resilience, you will learn to recognize how experiences you have may have impacted or continue to impact you, and how you can deal with this, so that you can fully concentrate on your professional career.

It is very crucial for you as a learner to know and understand the basics of human health. This include but not limited to how to have and maintain good hygiene. Good personal hygiene involves keeping all parts of your external body clean and healthy for you to enjoy good physical and mental health.
This module will expose you to the key ideas and information needed to have good health. The module has three units which are:
- Concept of the health and disease,
- Hygiene promotion in emergencies and
- Introduction to COVID-19 and its vaccines.

Everyone experiences conflict at some stage in their life. The conflicts can be interpersonal and sometimes we even experience it with our friends or family members when we disagree with them about something.
This module will help you understand how conflicts develop and how we can as individuals be part of escalating or resolving the conflict.

In a relentlessly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life. The dramatic changes in global economies over the years have been matched with the transformation in technology and these are all impacting on education, the workplace and our home life.
To cope with the increasing pace and change of modern life, learners need new life skills. The relevance of life skills training towards development of students’ social, emotional and cognitive development & dealing with their psychosocial challenges is essential for continuous learning and employability.

In every situation in one’s life, it is imperative to understand oneself in order to be able to relate with others well. Understanding the self has been approached by different theorists differently.

Lesson 3 - Decision MakingIn many instances in our lives we find that we need to make a decision on everything, right from what we shall wear to what we shall eat or not eat, what we shall learn or not learn. All these go through a thought process and sometimes engage others, depending on our understanding of self, our life skills and our level of self- awareness.
In this lesson, you will be introduced to the factors that influences decision making and how to make good decisions

The issue of patients’ rights to health care most especially mental healthcare is very important.
