The module understanding law and justice system intends to introduce students to the meaning and nature of law. More over the course acquaints students with the conception and principles of rule of law, Introduces students about the meaning and purpose of legal systems
This module has the following objectives
- Explain the meaning and nature of law, justice and justice system.
- Identify the nature and functions of justice organs and dispute adjudication mechanisms in general.
- Discuss the fundamental principles of human rights, with emphasis on the rights of marginalized groups such as Refugee, internally displaced people and Persons with disabilities.
- Discuss the general regulatory frame works of the law of contract and employment relations and
- Illustrate the fundamental principles that regulate business activities.

- Dear learners, welcome to this unit of the module, under this unit discussions about the specific rights of vulnerable sections of the societies will be addressed. This particular Unit also addresses the meaning, justifications and objectives of supporting the necessity of protecting vulnerable groups, the assurance of inclusion as a standard in all protections, the basic principles and rights women, fundamental tenets on the rights of refugees and migrants, and basic principles on the rights individuals with disabilities. In sum, the Unit helps to sensitize the definition, characterization and degrees of vulnerability by recognizing the intersectionality and overlap of the problems.

It addresses the enforcement mechanism of human rights in both generations of human rights that includes the civil, political rights and social and economic rights. It also highlights the existing broad categories of enforcement mechanisms in human rights. Then, the human rights reporting, communication and complaint handling procedures and the monitoring of these activities are discussed. Finally, it addresses the potential remedies that may be sought by individuals, state actors and international organizations.

The skills that students acquire under this module enables students to acquire skill that enables them get employment opportunity as paralegals and clerical works in Legal firms and Dispute Settlement institutions.

- Employment is inevitable in all economic transactions and relations. It is impossible for a single proprietor to carry out all activities. Employment relations may have differences from their nature of establishment. The general contractual arrangements and the special nature of employment contract helps to promote and maintain balanced and peaceful industrial and other context specific relations. Hence, it is critical to appreciate the nature of employment and employment contract and corresponding relations as a student since it is inevitable to be an employee or an employer. - The analytical and theoretical foundations of almost all thoughts are supported by foundational theories, assumptions and principles. As a special category of contractual and legal relations, it is critical to appreciate the main future of employment contracts. The failure to observe and internalize the main features of the contract may result in the loss of rights and they may cause unnecessary costs and compensation to be paid by the one who is defaulted. Therefore, the recognition and understanding of the main contract law and the special contract law helps to promote sustainable and win-win employment relations. This is also promoting efficiency and productivity.

- The reduction and application of the existing labour laws is enforced through designing and drafting of an employment contract. The draft may be developed by the initiation and agreement of the parties or it can be a draft developed by the employer as a form of adhesive contract. It is a very tough process that requires checking the brevity on the use of terms, fulfillment of the legal requirements and conditions as a form of validity requirement, the construction and clarity of words, phrases and statements and implications on their legal effect. Drafting a contract is almost similar with drafting a law. The quality of the employment contract drafting may have negative and positive implications on the parties and outcome of the contract. Thus, the Unit addresses on the practicing of sample employment contract format, the requirement of observing and contextualizing into employment relations.
