COURSE INTRODUCTION, OVERVIEW AND WELCOME MESSAGE
Welcome to the Peace Building, Information Communication Technology and Media (PBICTM).
On behalf of the lead of this course, I wish to welcome you to the Peace Building, Information Communication Technology, and Media course.
This course will expose you to the importance of Information Communication Technology in Peace-building. Modern means of communication have replaced traditional means of communication. Information and communication technology can be used as effective tools for security and sustainable peace. Modern means of communication present certain advantages over traditional means of communication. They are critical tools in peacebuilding and peacekeeping operations
This course is expected to run for 12 weeks. We shall have 11 weeks of active instructions and one week of assessment.
In this course, you will learn how to employ different means of communication for sustainable peace and security. This will help students to be effective peacebuilders. It will empower them to become actors in changing the conflict narrative using the social media platforms.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATORY COURSES
In the first week of this course, you will offer some short modules for skills development and preparation. This includes short courses on Life Skills, Introducing Basics in Health, Hygiene and COVID-19 prevention, community resilience, and Sexual and Reproductive health. These preparatory courses were made to give you an introduction to the essentials of life skills to help you forward in your life and your job.
In Life Skills, you will learn to think about who you are and where you want to go, and what skills you will need to develop in order to get there. In the Basics of Health, Hygiene and COVID-19, you will be introduced to health principles that are important for you and your community. In community resilience, you will learn to recognize how experiences you have may have impacted or continue to impact you, and how you can deal with this, so that you can fully concentrate on your professional career. In Sexual and Reproductive Health, you will learn the components of sexual and reproductive health, attributes of youth-friendly services, sexual and reproductive health problems, and ways to maintain positive sexual and reproductive health in youths

It is very crucial for you as a learner to know and understand the basics of human health. This includes but not limited to how to have and maintain good hygiene. Good personal hygiene involves keeping all parts of your external body clean and healthy for you to enjoy good physical and mental health.
This module will expose you to the key ideas and information needed to have good health. The module has three units which are:
- Concept of the health and disease,
- Hygiene promotion in emergencies and
- Introduction to COVID-19 and its vaccines.

This module comes in two parts and is developed in recognition that most people may have come across experiences, that is very difficult that continue to affect them in many ways including learning.
Psychological trauma results from extraordinarily stressful events that shatter people’s sense of security, creating in them a sense of helplessness in a dangerous world.
These experiences may include war, atrocities, abuse, extreme poverty, and other similar experiences that have caused you to feel helpless and unable to escape and save yourself.Learning Resources

In a relentlessly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life. The dramatic changes in global economies over the years have been matched with the transformation in technology and these are all impacting on education, the workplace and our home life.
To cope with the increasing pace and change of modern life, learners need new life skills. The relevance of life skills training towards the development of students’ social, emotional and cognitive development & dealing with their psychosocial challenges is essential for continuous learning and employability.

In every situation in one’s life, it is imperative to understand oneself in order to be able to relate with others well. Understanding the self has been approached by different theorists differently.

Lesson 3 - Decision Making
In many instances in our lives, we find that we need to make a decision on everything, right from what we shall wear to what we shall eat or not eat, what we shall learn or not learn. All these go through a thought process and sometimes engage others, depending on our understanding of self, our life skills, and our level of self-awareness.
In this lesson, you will be introduced to the factors that influence decision making and how to make good decisions

This horizontal module is about sexual and reproductive health among adolescents and youth.
Adolescents and youth are a huge part of the world and our country’s population. This huge population is mostly found in developing countries where there are many health, economic and social problems. As adolescence is the period when most young people start sexual activity it is also a period of exposure to many health risks.
Youth-friendly reproductive health services can improve young people’s reproductive health and prevent and treat sexual and reproductive health problems among young people. This module will be an introduction and a highlight of sexual and reproductive health and its importance to young people. The definition and components of sexual and reproductive health, attributes of youth-friendly services, sexual and reproductive health problems, and ways to keep young people’s sexual and reproductive health will be covered in this module.Watch this video for the lessons on SRH

Module 2 - Conflict Resolution, Reconciliation and Communication
You are welcome to your first unit of learning in this course by the end of the module, you will be able to understand the concepts of Conflict resolution and reconciliation, conflict resolution and reconciliation process as well as the conflict resolution mechanisms.
You will also have a new perspective on communication for conflict resolution and reconciliation.

Welcome to the third module – communication for peacebuilding.
This module is an essential, if not critical component of the Peace Building diplomacy course. It is expected that by the end of the module, you will have gained a solid understanding of the basic essentials of communication for peacebuilding.
The module highlights what communication is and moves sequentially to examine platforms and technologies for peacebuilding, and communication barriers in peacebuilding and concludes with highlights of participatory communication in peacebuilding.
Upon completion of this study module, you should be able to:
3.1 Use communication for peacebuilding effectively.
3.2 Utilize traditional platforms and new media technology to promote peacebuilding
3.3 Be aware of common communication barriers in peacebuilding.
3.4 Know the importance of participatory communication in peacebuilding
This lesson narrates the fundamental thoughts in peacebuilding and highlights the signification of communication in peacebuilding.

In this module, the basic definitions and the constructive roles of media and communication for conflict resolution and transformation to foster peace and stability will be discussed.
The correlative relations between Media and peace builders and their common objectives will also be assessed.

We are presently in an Information age, in which journalism and the media play a pivotal role in both conflict creation and resolution because the information spreading or not disseminated can bring about and shape public perception. Thus, it is very important for you to be able to identify the roles of the media in peacebuilding. this includes knowing the difference between journalism and media as well as how to verify information that can be used for the peacebuilding process.

Module 5 - Social Attitude and Peace Building
The importance of strengthening one's writing and speaking skills to influence decision-making and other people's conduct is emphasized here. This is especially important in dispute resolution because the negotiator/mediator in a conflict must have a deep understanding of the problem as well as a specific demeanor and mannerisms to carry out their tasks.

You are welcome to your sixth module of learning in this course.
This module introduces you to the various avenues that peace promoters use in peace-building interventions. It will take you through the various platforms and provide you with information that can better prepare you to use the different avenues effectively to advance peace-building efforts.
It is expected that by the end of the module, you would gain a full understanding of the conceptual framework of peacebuilding in practice as promoted through the various platforms indicated in the unit outline.
Upon completion of this last study module, you should be able to:
6.1 Understand the workings of peace-building practice through the various platforms.
6.2 Initiate and promote peace-building interventions through peace education, advocacy, activism, volunteerism, clubs, etc.
The lesson to be learned in this module is on the various avenues that peace promoters use in peace-building interventions.
